While retaining the familiar form of the Hercules, which has been present in the skies around the world for decades, the C-130J is an extensively redesigned machine. The most visible change is given by the Rolls-Royce (Allison) AE2100D3 engines of 4,700 horsepower each, with six-blade composite propellers that guarantee high silence while reducing fuel consumption. Among the performances, the climb rate and the range of action have benefited most from the new engines, but another no less important change concerns the avionics: the cockpit is in fact equipped with new digital instrumentation, as well as a large Head-Up Display capable of continuously providing the most important data to the rider, without having to take his eyes off the external situation.
