The American tank destroyer M36 was developed during the Second World War to provide the Allied armies with a valid response to the German armored vehicles, such as the Panther and the Tiger, equipped with powerful armor and great firepower. The M36 based its offensive capacity on the M3 90 mm cannon, higher than the 76 mm adopted on the previous M10 of which it shared the hull. The M36B1 was a makeshift solution due to the lack of hulls for which it was thought to install the turret of the M36 on the hull of the Sherman M4A3. The turret was open, as in all American tank destroyers, to ensure greater visibility in combat. The effectiveness of the M36B1 is proven by its operational longevity. After the Second World War it was used by numerous armies. He also participated in the Iran-Iraq conflict of the 1980s and the Balkan war of the 1990s. Some specimens were captured from the Iraqi army in the 2003 war against Iraq.
